The Kurobe Meisui Marathon course gives you some of all the best that the area has to offer, from crystal-clear rivers to the green mountains of the Kita Alps to the sparkling Sea of Japan shoreline. It climbs gradually over the first half from sea level to 124 m, but the lack of steep hills and the equally gradual downhill over the second half make it a course where you can run your best.
Local staff offer runners taping and other pre-race support, and 22 aid stations featuring Kurobe’s pure water help you on your way with 5 stations offering local delicacies mid-run. The unique finisher’s medal features images of President Carter, sure to be a beautiful part of your collection, and finisher’s certificates showing your time and place are available right in the finish area before you go home.
Before you do go home, don’t miss your chance to try some of the area’s best food free of charge! Race staff happily serve every finisher with Meisui nabe pork miso soup and crab miso soup, Meisui dumplings, sushi and more. You’d be hard-pressed to get such a good gourmet tour of the area if you were just sightseeing!
And speaking of sightseeing, the male and female winners receive invitations to run the Portland Marathon in Oregon, U.S.A. Other finishers have a chance to win a drawing for trips to Guam or local products from Kurobe and its sister city of Nemuro, Hokkaido. Very generous indeed, and it’s just that kind of generosity that sets Kurobe and Toyama apart.
How can you get there? By Hokuriku Shinkansen bullet train it’s just 2 1/2 hours from Tokyo or 3 1/2 hours from Nagoya and Osaka. By plane from Tokyo’s Haneda airport it takes 2 hours and 15 minutes including connecting bus and train. Likewise, flights from Sapporo take 2 1/2 hours including connections. It’s no problem to drive either, and on race day free shuttle buses will run from designated parking lots and train stations in the area to the race venue and back. Be sure to follow the Kurobe Meisui Marathon Facebook page for all the latest updates on what to expect in 2016.
