    Sapporo is the largest city and capital of the northern Japanese island, Hokkaido. Sapporo is the fourth largest city in Japan with a population of 2 million. They have an international airport, New Chitose Airport that is accessible to the world. Hokkaido is known for cold winters, delicious seafood, and their Yuki Matsuri, or snow festival, which attracts over 2 million visitors every February.


    With 30 years of history, Hokkaido Marathon is dubbed one of the best summer marathons in Japan. There are limited amounts of marathons in the summer, due to the heat. Every August, 17,000 runners race through the city hoping to finish within the 5 hour cut-off time. There is also a 11.5 km Fun Run division with 3,500 runners. The course runs through the urban area of Sapporo and the beautiful green landscape. Cheers from the spectators and the crisp air of Hokkaido will push you till the end of the finish line.
