Iwaki City is located in the southern part of the Hamadori coastal region of Fukushima Prefecture. This area was greatly affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011. Besides a full marathon with 7,000 runners, this event also organizes a 2km, 5km, 10km as well as a family 2km run with a total of 10,000 runners. Iwaki and Ueno Station in Tokyo is about a 3 hour bus ride or a 2 hour train ride on the express line. The course can be a bit challenging with frequent up and downs, but the heartfelt cheer from the spectators along the road with music and big flags will motivate you to the finish line.

Popular Hawaii-Inspired hot spring theme park, Spa Resort Hawaiians, attracts many visitors to Iwaki City. Spa Resort Hawaiians’ Edo-Jowa Yoichi, is recognized as the Guinness World Records largest open-air bath. 2006 film, Hula Girls, was based on the story of the founding of the resort.
