This very popular full marathon runs through stunning scenic nature around the lakeside of Toya.
The Toyako Marathon has more than 40 years of history and attracts more than 8,000 runners each year. On the course, you will enjoy lush green views, cherry blossoms and a grand sight of the lake.
The course is mostly flat but you may have to be careful of mild undulations along the way.
Also, prepare yourself with long sleeves and tights for the cold Hokkaido weather. Distance signs are displayed at every kilometer. There are 8 water stations and 4 aid stations along the course. At the 30km aid station, you will be served cheese cake, yokan (Japanese sweet bean dessert), bananas and shiso juice. The local specialty shiso, also known as Perilla, belongs to the mint family and is a refreshing treat. The finisher’s certificate is issued on the race day, and the finisher’s t-shirt design is very popular among runners. Run along the breathtaking view of Lake Toya for an unforgettable experience!
