    The Fujiyoshida Himatsuri Road Race is a half marathon held every August at the foot of Mount Fuji. Japan’s highest 3,776 meter mountain is located in Fujiyoshida City of Yamanashi Prefecture. Runners can enjoy a grand view of Mount Fuji while racing the challenging undulating course.

    During the same weekend, the Fuji no Himatsuri (Fuji Fire Festival) is held which is the origin of the race’s name. This particular fire festival is held every year to appease the goddess of Mount Fuji and to keep eruptions at bay. This two-day festival has been celebrated for over 500 years and is known to be one of Japan’s unique festivals, attracting visitors from all over the globe.

    At the venue, there are lots of unique local booths, creating a lively atmosphere. The local specialty, “Yoshida Udon” remains a crowd favorite till this day.

    The access to the venue is also convenient. The 2 hour marathon shuttle bus from Shinjuku station or free shuttle bus from Fujisan station will take you to the race venue. There is also a bus service that will pick you up from your parking lot.
