This iconic event is one of the most famous local road races that attracts many runners across Japan. With nearly 50 years of history, the Towa Road Race is acclaimed as Tohoku’s “Boston Marathon.” The first half of the course is an uphill road, followed by a downhill. The infamous “Nightmare Hill” anxiously awaits you along the way. 14 water stations are set up along the course, and half of the stations serve fruits such as bananas and watermelons to keep you satisfied.
Run through the “Hydrangeas Road” where over 8,000 hydrangeas flowers bloom, and Japan’s first “Marathon Shower” sprinkler service created by this race. Though the course is challenging, the thoughtful “Omotenashi” spirit of the race organizers and encouraging cheer from the crowd will keep you going till the finish line.
