He lost his life by avalanche while he was climbing Ultar Peak in Pakistan on the 10th of October, 1991.Mr. Hasegawa belonged to the Tokyo Mountaineering Federation (TMF). To commemorate his work, TMF began to hold Japan Mountain Endurance Race or “HASETSUNE CUP” exactly one year after his death.HASETSUNE CUP is now regarded as one of the top trail running races in Japan.
