nikkotrailrun@gmail.comWeb Site Web Site Web Site http://www.nikkorun.com/ http://www.nikkorun.com/ http://www.nikkorun.com/ Nikko is located in Tochigi prefecture of Japan and is a renowned World Heritage Site in Japan. Nikko was originally founded by great Buddhist monk of Heian period, Shodo Shonin, who is the founder of most temples and shrines around the Nikko area. Shodo Shonin is known to be the first person to explore the summits of Nikko National Park. He climbed 2,486 ft-high Mt. Nantaisan after the third time in March 782, and succeeded. This year has been the 1250 years since the historical moment, and this race takes place to honor his legacy.
The race takes place at Nikko Toshogu Shrine on a quiet morning by the sound of the shrine's bell as a starting signal.
The Kirifuri Kogen Plateau, which is part of the course, has the best view of the beautiful autumn leaves scenery in November. The view of the former Kirifuri ranch also wonderful, where you can overlook Mt. Nyohosan and Nikko Town. Kirifuri Kogen is also known for the stairs called "heavenly corridor" and is one of the highlights of the course.
Towards the end of the race, you will head to Nikko Toshogu Shrine, Mt. Futarasan Shrine, and Rinnoji Temple; two of which are World Heritage Sites. The scenic course will surely maintain your excitement and encourage you till the very end!
Enjoy not only these historical heritages but also the landscapes, lakes, waterfalls, hot springs in Nikko National Park after the race!
