It takes approximately one hour from Tokyo to Utsunomiya by Bullet Train and about 40 minute complimentary shuttle ride is offered to the runners from Utsunomiya to Mouka.
The course starts from Inokashira Park in Mouka city and takes its course through 4 nearby towns, showcasing the relaxed countryside of Japan and the old fashioned steam locomotive. The course is beginner friendly with a moderate amount of undulations. Currently, the capacity of this marathon is 2,500 participants with a cut off time of 6 hours, but are hoping to expand to 3,000 runners in the future.
As you run, you will be cheered on by the locals, young and old. They are kind and supportive, with words of encouragement that will constantly push you forward. At the aid stations, you will find foods such as strawberries, Japanese pears, lemons and chocolates as well as corn potage soup, and even boiled dumplings. Post-race, "Tonjiru", a popular Japanese pork miso soup is rewarded to replenish your energy.
