The theme of the KOBE MARATHON, “Thanks and Friendship”, expresses Kobe’s sincere gratitude to the people around the world who reached out to Kobe for their recovery from the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake till today.
The course is scenic and interesting, with a mixture of mountain and sea, as well as the urban and countryside. The course starts at the Kobe City Hall and runs along the seaside to the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, which is the turning point. The runners are then cheered on by the Tairyoubata, a flag located on a large ship that celebrates and symbolizes hopes for a great catch, then continues on to the finish line through Port Island.
20,000 runners will participate in this marathon with a 7 hour cutoff time.
