    In 2016, The HIMEJI CASTLE MARATHON was established in Himeji city of Hyogo prefecture. Runners start and finish at the Himeji Castle, the largest and most visited castle in Japan that was apanregistered in 1993 as one of the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Japan. This marathon route partially takes the Himeji Castle Road Race course. Live music and special events fill the entire course with a fun and exciting atmosphere.

    The castle’s nickname “Egret Castle” comes from the elegant appearance that looks like an egret spreading its wings. 400 years later, you can still enjoy the elegance and beauty of the castle today.

    During the race week, “The world heritage Himeji Castle Marathon Festival” is held. This festival consisting of various booths and award ceremonies bring enthusiasm to not only the runners, but volunteers and spectators as well. A spectator’s guide is passed out to encourage people to cheer on the runners during the race. Take part in this memorable and exciting race to enjoy the beauty that Himeji has to offer!
