The Kumamoto Castle Marathon is one of the largest full marathons in Kyushu Island. Kumamoto is most famous for 400-year-old Kumamoto Castle, which is one of Japan’s largest and most complete. The first race was held in 2012 and continuously attracts more than 12,000 runners every February. The course runs through the historical city and finishes at the famous Kumamoto Castle. Although the last uphill towards the finish line is challenging, to experience a race with the iconic ancient castle as its setting is absolutely priceless. Exhibitions and drawings at the expo, and race day services such as massage, foot baths, and aromatherapy contributes to the popularity of this race.

The participation towel is printed with Kumamoto’s famous mascot “Kumamon,” and the finisher’s medal with the Kumamoto castle motif is also very popular.
