The Senshu International City Marathon is located in Senshu City of Osaka Prefecture, an area close to Kansai International Airport. The airport is located an hour away from downtown Osaka, and 2 hours away from Kyoto by bus. Of the many activities in this area, there is a beech wood forest classified as a Quasi-National park, opportunities to experience commercial fishing, and hot springs for you to venture.

The full marathon capacity is 5000 runners with a time limit of 5 hours, and the 10k consists of 1500 runners. This race is certified by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations, and 250,000 spectators including 4,000 volunteers cheer on the runners along the course. Drums and bells are played on the Danjiri, a large wooden cart in the shape of a shrine or temple. These carts are often seen at the popular Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri, a famous Japanese festival originating from this area.

Friendly volunteer staff distribute water, sports drinks and food at the aid stations. The bridges and steep hills after the 30k mark bring a challenge to the race. The average percentage of finishers are in the mid 80’s, but that doesn’t stop runners to continuously love this race.
