The Echigo Yuzawa Half Marathon is a race held in Niigata Prefecture in September. The course takes place during the fall in hot spring town Yuzawa. This rural area is the setting of “Yukiguni,” or Snow Country, a famous full-length novel written by Japanese author Yasunari Kawabata. This novel is considered a classic work of Japanese literature. The Echigo Yuzawa Half Marathon has been selected in the ‘Top 100 Races of Japan’ for 9 consecutive years, thanks to their amazing race operation and hospitality.

The day before the race, the main road is blocked off for many booths and stands that welcome the runners. Participants can check in for the race at the Echigo Yuzawa Station on that day so participants can take a walk around the city. The race website provides accommodation packages for participants for their convenience. The transportation to Echigo Yuzawa station is roughly 80 mins by Shinkansen, and a 2 hour drive from Tokyo. Nestled in the Japan Alps, Yuzawa offers clean air and a beautiful mountain scenery that will surely make your trip memorable.
